Clinker Build / Planking Stern

Been a day or two, I have been working on it, just not much to report, so will get you caught up.

Got another question about the materials the ship is made from. This kit came with the prefab plywood part, Ramin (the light colored wood used on the deck), Mahogany , and Apple-wood. That's it for the wood, only having a couple different types makes this much easier. I have done ships that have 6-8 different types. When you get the kit the wood isn't separated, sometimes is hard to tell the difference
Also included are two plastic boxes with cast metal and brass parts. Then you have most of the string for the sails and rigging, I always run out, you can buy it on line without any problem. Finally you get a bag of cloth sails.  One nice thing is that 95 percent of it is Mahogany, you can get filler and putty for it easy enough at your local hardware store. Most ships I have built are made with exotic woods, you can't just run out to the store and get some African Walnut, you can get Mahogany just about anywhere.

Finishing the bulkheads with the .6 x 5mm planking (clinker).

Once all this is done we move to the stern, using the 0.6 x 5mm Mahogany will line the upper stern and its floor.

Still got some trim work and first sanding, upper stern strips are vertical, and the floor run horizontal.

Now some fun, will line the bow frame 12 with mahogany 2 x 5mm, 1/3 of it will run horizontal, then run a vertical strip down the center, working off that, run 45 degree strips to finish it off, nailing with the supplied brass nails.

The 45 degree planks just clamped to give you an idea, still have to finish before gluing.

Still drilling the holes for the deck planks, the but joints, getting there with them.

I will keep plugging away with the bow, would like to have this done to start working on the hull planks this weekend.

Thanks for watching, if you have any questions just leave them in the comment section below, the e-mails you are sending seem to take longer to get to me for some reason.

    1. This is a real nice ship. If your interested, I posted, Day 1, the link that this was purchased from. Just remember this is not a beginner ship, the instruction are really basic, they go into little or no detail. thanks for the comment.
